What is an automatic drive-through wash system?
It is a fixed installation the vehicle drives through under its own power while arches and spray bars do the washing. Nobody holds a wand. For a fleet washing on a routine that is the difference between a job that needs staff scheduled for it and one that happens as vehicles come back to the yard.
Touchless or brush — which is better for a fleet?
They fail differently. Touchless relies on chemistry and pressure with nothing contacting the paint, which suits mixed fleets, decal-heavy vehicles and anything where contact is a concern. Brush systems apply mechanical contact, which removes bonded road film faster and generally uses less chemical. Fleets that care most about finish and mixed vehicle shapes lean touchless; fleets fighting heavy road film often prefer brushes.
How long does each vehicle take?
A drive-through pass is measured in minutes rather than the better part of an hour a hand wash takes, and the vehicle does not stop moving. The practical gain is bigger than the per-vehicle number suggests, because throughput is what lets a whole fleet get washed on a schedule instead of whenever someone has time.
What size vehicles can go through?
Systems are engineered around the largest unit in your fleet — refuse packers, plow trucks, transit buses and motorcoaches all run through drive-through systems. Sizing for the biggest vehicle means everything smaller passes without adjustment.
How much water does it use, and can it be recycled?
Automatic systems use water more predictably than hand washing because the cycle is fixed rather than depending on how long someone holds a trigger. Water reclaim and reverse-osmosis options recycle wash water to cut fresh-water draw, which lowers utility cost and helps with discharge requirements.
Does it clean the undercarriage too?
Only if undercarriage spray is part of the system. The sides and top of a vehicle are what an arch reaches; road salt does its damage underneath. Pairing the drive-through with a drive-over undercarriage system is what makes it a corrosion programme rather than an appearance one.
